HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR OLD ARTICLES AND GET VISITORS

  HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR OLD ARTICLES AND GET VISITORS

In the “career” of a blogger, there are always those texts that are better and better accepted by readers: they receive more visits and are always active. Here, for example, I never fail to cite the main posts whenever possible. It's those types of old posts that need to be optimized. The most important texts on your blog usually receive a high rate of visits, especially from search engines. But they can be further optimized, so you can make the most of this traffic-generating capacity that such old posts (still) can provide.

These techniques involve a bit of SEO and rewriting your old posts, but nothing that makes you more than 20 to 30 minutes for each post. Here are the main techniques you can use to improve your old posts following a single line of thought that is easy to improve. I'll put everything in a step-by-step format, so no one will get lost or be too lazy to at least tweak a little old post!

Obs.:  First of all, it might be interesting for you to get an old text from your blog to go through the steps described here and learn a little more with all this. Consider a text that already receives some visits from Google and that is highly commented and also likely to be more optimized (especially to move up positions in Google searches, if it is not already in the first one).

1 – OPTIMIZE KEYWORDS

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR OLD ARTICLES AND GET VISITORS

I've talked about Keyword Optimization here several times. Generally, when we write a text, we don't pay much attention to finding out which keywords generate the most traffic on Google searches and which could possibly be attracted to our post. Thus, when re-optimizing an old post, you may end up discovering new keywords to use, much more attractive than those already used.

To do this, go to  the Adwords Keyword Tool and do some synonym searches for the keywords you used in your old text. Also, be sure that you can rank high in searches for these keywords. Do a quick Google search and analyze the On-Page SEO of the links in the top positions and some information such as PageRank and number of links pointing to the page.

2 – REWRITE THE TEXT

Now, take the best keyword you found doing the previous exercise (but which has the ability to hit the top position for your search) and incorporate it into the following parts of your old post:

  •  Title;

  •  Introduction;

  •  Last paragraph;

  •  Middle of the content (as many repetitions as possible, as long as your text remains readable).

  •  Subtitles (if any).

For long texts (400+ words), you can even use 5 to 10 repetitions of the main keyword. But here you go: if your blog is personal, a task like this can become unfeasible for certain texts (but that doesn't mean you can't at least pick a main keyword a little better and put it in it in some points of your old post, or replace the existing keywords for better ones).

 Note: Be careful not to do article spinning with this new Google change, this technique has been condemned and you may be penalized.

3 – LINKS POINTING TO THE OLD POST

After keyword optimization within your text, look for other text that may have identical or similar content to the text you are now improving. So, try creating links pointing to this text, using your main keyword as the anchor (“linking” this keyword and making it point to this old post that is being improved). Try raising 5 new links (or more if you like) pointing to your text to be improved. Another alternative is to improve the Related Posts on your blog, making them as related as possible.

 Internal links greatly increase the power of a text, you can be sure!

4 – PUBLISH ON SOCIAL NETWORKS AND NEWS AGGREGATORS

Now we are going to look for external links for your text: publish them on the main Social Networks and News Aggregators, especially those that give Follow Links to your text, such as Link-Me, by Marcus Arag√£o.  Send it to all Social Networks and News Aggregators you haven't used yet. Try to submit your old post to 5 to 10 sites of this type and, go to Social Networks.

5 – INCREMENT THE CONTENT

I'm sure that whenever I pass a really old post (which was written at least 3 months ago), I'll find a lot to improve on additional ideas, bases for creating new sessions, and so on. This is normal for people who are always updating themselves within the content they write about.

So, optimize the content of your old post and also take the opportunity to rank for some new keywords, in case you create a new important section within your text. To do this, do a new keyword search (go back to step one) and find some that are very easy to rank (but bring some traffic). After all, it's a secondary thing to hit, like a bonus, so it can't be too hard to rank.

6 – LINKS TO OTHER BLOGS

 That's right: since you've increased your content, you can also cite some related links that are on other blogs. So, you'll be doing an additional task, garnering links to your texts, explained in the fifth step, because you'll probably have a new trackback on the blog in question, which could even be Follow.

7 – LOYALTY THE READER

Since your post may look better than the previous one, it might be interesting to direct these new visitors to generate more revenue, right? After all, no blogger lives only by writing.

8 – LINKS WITHIN THE TEXT

A good technique to improve an old post is to lower the Bounce Rate it keeps, especially if it's too high. To do this task, simply “drip” some links pointing to other texts within this post. A very high Bounce The rate can be mainly dictated by the lack of internal links and a large number of external links (not only within your posts but also elsewhere in your blog, such as your sidebar, for example).

9 – ORGANIZE INFORMATION

Over time, we also tend to organize the information within our posts in a different way. Here on the blog, if you follow an old tips list, it's in a hand-listed format with the main points in bold. No H2 Subtitles as I started using it last week.

Finally, I can say that with these tips the blog grows and stays healthy over time, even if I heavily optimize a few posts. Follow the ideas presented here whenever you can and see how differences really arise!
